The Intention for Earthlands
Dr. Larry Buell, Founder and Interim Director
Greetings to Friends and new Comers to the World of Earthlands,
On Thursday, February 21st Earthlands launched its long awaited Land Trust Project to protect its core property in perpetuity for Earth-center education, personal transformation, wildlife protection, and open space. I have waited nearly fifty years since receiving the “Original Vision” of Earthlands when I was on retreat along the pristine waters of the Swift River that flow into the massive Quabbin Reservoir.
Much has been accomplished over the last twenty-five (25) years at Earthlands since the Main Lodge was constructed in 1987 to house the “Semester on Earth” living and learning community of the Outdoor Leadership Program at Greenfield Community College, MA. Earthlands has hosted a broad range of programs, including college courses, retreats for organizations and individuals, festive season gatherings, and conferences. Nationally known organizations from Rainforest Action Network and New Warriors, to Daughters of the Earth and NESEA’s Northeast Sustainable Energy Association have used Earthlands to conduct their own programs. Internationally known leaders have brought their teaching to Earthlands, including, John Seed, Australian Rain Forest Activist; Diana Leaf Christian, Community Organizer; John Robbins, Health Advocate; Malidome Some, African Initiated Elder; Dave Jacke, Master Permaculturist; Harvey Wasserman, Earth Activist; Jill Stein, Political Activist; and Richard Heinberg, Peak Oil Advocate.
Earthlands is alive and well! With the movement toward a public land trust, Earthlands will continue to empower and inspire people to participate as skilled, conscious, and joyful contributors to the evolving life on Planet Earth. Earthlands welcomes supporters who possess passion, energy, and expertise necessary to guide this vision into a regenerative way of living on the Earth into the 21st Century.
There are many details and logistics about the Land Trust and the work of Earthlands that you will hear about soon enough through our new website, social media outlets, and direct contact from me and other staff. I know from long days and hours of personal practice that it is now time to offer an intention for Earthlands and its work in the world.
